Welcome to Kiteboarding Paradise
Windward Mayreau sits on the windward side of the island, directly facing the Tobago Cays — one of the most exciting kiteboarding locations in the Caribbean. Steady trade winds, warm water, and reef-protected conditions create a natural playground set against turquoise lagoons and unspoiled beauty.
From November through July, the trade winds deliver consistent sessions with no wetsuit and no crowds. It’s also one of the best places in the Caribbean to learn, with uncrowded beginner-friendly lagoons and professional instruction and gear support nearby.
Three World-Class Spots for Every Riding Style
Windward Mayreau is uniquely positioned between the best kite spots in the Grenadines. Depending on conditions and your riding style, you can access three world-class areas — from kickers and open-water runs directly in front of the resort, to the turquoise lagoons of the Tobago Cays and the flat water of Frigate on Union Island. Windward is your basecamp for the ultimate uncrowded Grenadines kite experience.
Windward Mayreau (Our Home Spot)
This is the signature Windward session — launching directly in front of the resort into a wide open stretch of warm, crystal-clear water. The wind is typically side-onshore, clean and consistent, coming across the channel from the Tobago Cays. Conditions are flat-ish, but alive — with natural “kickers” that can build up to 3–4 feet, creating perfect ramps for boosting, carving, and playful freeriding.
For foilers and experienced riders, the outside reef line offers long open-water runs. A natural passageway provides access through the reef.
Best for: freeride, jumping, boosting, foiling
Conditions: flat-ish with 2-4’ kickers, side-onshore
Level: beginner-intermediate (riders can stay upwind) to advanced (foilers outside reef)
Tobago Cays
A short 15-minute boat ride brings you into the Tobago Cays Marine Park — a place that feels unreal even before you launch. Ride turquoise lagoons surrounded by uninhabited islands, sea turtles, and reef structure. The highlight is Horseshoe Reef, where you’ll find a dramatic reef edge and a small wave section at the far end.
One of the signature experiences here is a mini downwinder back to Mayreau — a scenic island-to-island run that typically takes around 30 minutes, with steady trade winds and stunning visibility the entire way.
Best for: foiling, freeride, scenic cruising, reef sessions
Conditions: flat/slight chop lagoon + reef edge
Level: all levels
Union Island - Frigate
For kiters who want true flatwater, Union Island delivers. The Ashton / Frigate area is known for its shallow turquoise lagoon and exceptionally smooth riding conditions. Frigate is widely considered one of the best beginner kiteboarding locations in the Caribbean, thanks to its shallow crystal-clear lagoon, smooth water, and safe learning environment. Our partner school Happy Kite operates directly from their floating catamaran base, making lessons and gear rental seamless. Whether you’re learning, dialing in new tricks, or just enjoying effortless flatwater cruising, this is the ultimate progression spot.
Best for: beginners, freestyle, flatwater progression
Conditions: shallow lagoon, smooth and clear
Level: all levels
Mayreau Wind Statistics
Windward Mayreau benefits from one of the longest and most reliable trade wind seasons in the Caribbean. From November through July, consistent easterly winds deliver 16-20mph days up to 80% of the month (green on the chart).
Even during the warmer summer months, the Grenadines remain highly kiteable, making Mayreau an exceptional year-round destination for freeride, foiling, and progression.
